For years, the Commune of Niederanven has been striving to promote the Luxembourgish language, particularly on its communication platforms.
On this page, we wish to present to you our activities and partnerships aimed at promoting the Luxembourgish language, as well as various tools and innovations that may help you learn or improve your Luxembourgish.
Activities and projects of the Commune
On Monday 31 March 2025, in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Eric Thill, the Director of the "Zentrum fir d'Lëtzebuerger Sprooch" (ZLS), Alexandre Ecker, the Commissioner for the Luxembourgish language, Pierre Reding, and the representative of the Syvicol, Jacques Bauer, we became the first commune in the country to sign an agreement with the ZLS to strengthen the visibility and use of the Luxembourgish language in communes.
On Saturday, 10 January 2026, the Actioun Lëtzebuergesch held its New Year’s reception at our Commune building.
On this occasion, we had the great pleasure, as a Commune, to receive the silver Dicks-Rodange-Lentz plaque for the year 2026 – in recognition of our efforts to promote the Luxembourgish language on our communication platforms.
Tools for learning or improving Luxembourgish
Luxembourgish orthography
The Lëtzebuerger Orthografie document can be downloaded as PDF.
Luxembourgish orthography officially establishes the spelling of the Luxembourgish language for areas under the jurisdiction of the Luxembourg state (administrations, schools). It thus contributes to the unification of spelling and helps all those wishing to refer to or learn the official spelling.
Lëtzebuerger Online Dictionnaire (LOD) - Luxembourgish online dictionary
The online Luxembourgish dictionary is a multilingual dictionary in which Luxembourgish words are translated into German, French, English, and Portuguese, and illustrated with examples in Luxembourgish. You will also find verb and adjective conjugation tables, as well as an audio button to listen to the pronunciation.
Sproochmaschinn.lu - Speech recognition and speech synthesis in Luxembourgish
This web application provides access to two essential features of modern digital processing of the Luxembourgish language: in addition to improved language recognition for automatic transcription of spoken language, the platform also offers a brand-new feature called speech synthesis. This tool allows users to convert written texts into spoken language.
Liicht Sprooch Lëtzebuergesch - Easy language in Luxembourgish
