Pilot project for autonomous vehicles in our Commune
Published on 12 October 2026
As a Commune, we would like to inform residents that, over the coming weeks and months, they may notice specially equipped vehicles operating on our public roads. These vehicles, specifically BAIC Arcfox T5 models, are part of a pilot project led by Pony.ai, a globally active company specializing in autonomous driving technologies.
The aim of the project is to test and further develop autonomous driving technologies under real traffic conditions. Our Commune has been selected as a test area due to its diverse road network and the suitable conditions it offers for structured test drives.
All test operations are carried out under a scientific testing permit issued by the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works. The activities are subject to strict safety requirements and comply with all Luxembourgish and European laws and regulations, including data protection requirements under the GDPR.
Safety remains the top priority throughout the entire testing phase. Although the vehicles are equipped with autonomous technology, a specially trained operator will remain inside the vehicle at all times and can immediately take control whenever necessary.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with several partners. Bolt, an international mobility platform, supports the integration of autonomous technology into future mobility services, while Emile Weber contributes its expertise in vehicle development, fleet management and local regulations.
Through this pilot project, our Commune is contributing to the development and evaluation of innovative mobility solutions. We are proud to be involved in this unique initiative and to collaborate with national and international partners. Residents will be kept informed of any important developments throughout the project.
