Town twinning

The Douzelage

In 1991, the delegates from 12 European cities (one per EU member country), of which one was Niederanven, signed the very special town twinning charta of the "Douzelage" in the French town of Granville. With this official act the Commune of Niederanven and its European partners laid the groundwork for a European cooperation in culture, education and sports, whose character is unique throughout Europe, as the twinning pact represents all member countries of the EU.

In 1993 the Douzelage gets one of the most coveted awards in the field of European town twinning: The "Golden Stars of Twinning".

By this act the Douzelage was finally admitted among the "VIP" European twinning associations.

Over the years the Douzelage community has gradually grown at the same beat as the European Union.
